A compact walk through the heart of Haugesund. Start at the cruise harbour, pass through the city's most iconic spots, and end at a café by the water. Perfect if your time is limited.
Your starting point. Step off the ship and you're already in the city. No shuttle needed. The town centre is a 2-minute walk from the pier.
→ Walk straight ahead toward the waterfrontHaugesund's beating heart. This narrow strait divides the city in two. Colourful wooden buildings line the water, and fishing boats still dock here every morning.
→ Follow the waterfront south along the promenadeYes, Marilyn Monroe has a connection to Haugesund. Her father's family emigrated from here to the US. The statue was unveiled in 2014 and has been a selfie spot ever since.
→ Continue to the Town Hall square"The Marilyn Monroe connection was a total surprise — we had no idea. The stop descriptions made us feel like we actually understood the city, not just walked past it."

Walk from the harbour to the birthplace of Norway. This route takes you through 1,000 years of history, ending at Haraldshaugen where King Harald Fairhair unified the nation.
Your journey into Viking history starts right here. Haugesund was a major trading hub long before the cruise ships arrived. Vikings sailed these exact waters over a thousand years ago.
→ Head along the waterfront toward the city centreThis narrow channel has been the lifeblood of Haugesund for centuries. Herring fishermen made their fortune here in the 1800s. The colourful wooden houses you see were built with fishing money.
→ Walk south along the water to Town Hall SquareHaraldsgata is named after King Harald Fairhair, the Viking king you'll learn about at the end of this walk. The entire city carries his name because this is where he was buried.
→ Continue up Haraldsgata toward the church"Haraldshaugen was stunning. We knew exactly what we were looking at and why it mattered. Worth every krone — this was the best port day of our whole cruise."

The complete Haugesund experience. Start at the harbour, walk through Viking history at Haraldshaugen, then continue along the dramatic Kyststien coastal path all the way to Rising Tides in Kvalsvik. This is the one locals recommend.
Your adventure begins at the pier. This tour takes you from the city through Viking history and out along the coast. Make sure you have comfortable shoes and water. Allow 3 hours for the full route.
→ Walk toward Smedasundet and the city centrePass through the Smedasundet waterfront and Town Hall Square. Take in the city atmosphere before you leave it behind. This is your last chance for a coffee before the coast.
→ Head north through the residential areaThe streets get quieter as you leave the city centre behind. Old wooden houses from the herring-boom era line the road — painted white and ochre, perfectly kept. You'll feel the shift from busy harbour town to something slower and older as the path opens up northward toward the hill.
→ Continue toward the monument appearing on the hill ahead"We saw parts of Haugesund that nobody else from our ship visited. The coastal path was wild and beautiful. Absolutely incredible — do this one if you can."
