Before You Buy
Common questions from cruise passengers — answered honestly.
The Tour
The standard route takes approximately 1.5 to 3 hours at a comfortable pace — longer if you stop for coffee, duck inside the church, or linger at Haraldshaugen (which most people do). You can go faster or slower; there's absolutely no schedule to keep. Most cruise passengers find it fits well within a typical 4–6 hour port stop.
Yes. The main route is mostly flat and follows paved streets through the city centre. There are no steep hills or difficult terrain. It's suitable for families, older travellers, and anyone who walks comfortably for a couple of hours.
The Viking & Rising Tides Walk includes a coastal stretch with some uneven terrain and gentle elevation — perfectly manageable, but worth knowing if you prefer a flatter route.
Completely. There are no fixed departure times, no booking windows, and no group to coordinate with. Buy the route from wherever you are — on the ship, at the harbour, in a café — and start whenever it suits you. Your access doesn't expire during the day.
The tour covers 8 to 15+ stops depending on which route you choose, including the Marilyn Monroe Statue (and the remarkable story behind it), Indre Kai, the Town Hall square, Haraldsgata pedestrian street, Vår Frelsers Church, Byparken, and the nationally significant Haraldshaugen burial mound of King Harald Fairhair.
Each stop comes with a short story written by people who live here — not a copy-pasted Wikipedia summary, but local context that actually makes the place come alive.
If you want the classic highlights in a compact route, go with the City Walk (1.5 hrs, 8 stops). If you're interested in Viking history and want to visit Haraldshaugen, choose the Viking Heritage Walk (2 hrs, 11 stops). If you want the full experience — history, city, and coastline — the Viking & Rising Tides Walk (3 hrs, 15+ stops) is the best value and the most complete tour we offer.
Rising Tides is a well-known landmark in Haugesund — a striking sculpture situated along the Kyststien coastal path on the western side of the city. It's become one of the most photographed spots in the area, and for good reason: the setting, with open sea on one side and the Norwegian coastline on the other, is genuinely memorable. The Viking & Rising Tides Walk includes this stretch as part of the route.
All three tours start at the cruise harbour (Indre Kai). You step off your ship and you're already at the starting point — no shuttle, no taxi, no extra transport needed. The Google Maps route opens directly from the harbour.
English. The stop descriptions are written to be clear and engaging for all visitors, including non-native English speakers. The language is natural and accessible — no academic jargon, no overly formal phrasing.
Phone & Tech
No app needed. After purchase you receive a link that opens directly in your phone's browser. The route itself runs on Google Maps, which most phones already have installed — but even if not, it works in a browser too. Nothing to install, nothing to set up.
We recommend opening the Google Maps route while you're still connected to your ship's WiFi so it fully loads. Once open, Google Maps works offline for navigation — it'll guide you from stop to stop without needing a data connection.
To be safe and avoid roaming charges: open the link before you go ashore, let the map load completely, and you're set for the whole walk.
You receive a link to your custom Google Maps route with all stops loaded in order. Tap it on your phone and Google Maps will guide you through the city, step by step. The stop descriptions and local stories are included in the route — no separate document to juggle.
Any modern smartphone — iPhone, Android, whatever you have. As long as you can open a link and use Google Maps (or a browser), you're good to go. No special settings required.
Payment
139–169 NOK per purchase, depending on the tour. Guided tours in Haugesund typically run 600–900 NOK per person — this gives you a richer, more personal experience at a fraction of the price. One purchase also covers your entire travel party (see below).
Yes. We use Stripe, one of the most trusted payment processors in the world. Your card details are never stored on our servers — Stripe handles all payment data with bank-level encryption. You can pay with any major credit or debit card.

Groups
Yes — and this is one of the best things about how it works. Your Google Maps link can be forwarded to anyone in your group via WhatsApp, text, or email. One purchase covers your entire travel party. There's no per-person fee, no separate purchases required for couples or families.
Absolutely. The route is family-friendly, flat, and passes through a safe, walkable city centre. The stories are written for adults but easy enough for curious older kids to follow along. Younger children will enjoy the harbour, the park, and the Viking monument — it makes for a genuinely engaging family outing.
Practical
Norway is Norway — rain is part of the experience. The route follows paved streets and passes several spots where you can duck inside (the church, the cafés along Haraldsgata, Byparken's covered areas). A light rain jacket is always a smart call for a Norwegian port stop, regardless of the forecast.
The standard routes are designed to fit a typical 4–6 hour port stop. Always keep an eye on your all-aboard time. If you're short on time, skip the coastal stretch and head back from Haraldshaugen — you'll still see everything that matters.
